The Remaining
(2014)**1/2
A wedding should be one of the happiest days in a couples lives and it sure looks that way until all hell breaks loose, literally. Amidst the wedding festivities earth shaking tremors begin as people everywhere suddenly drop dead. As the remaining wedding folks begin to gather they soon find themselves running from hail the size of basketballs furiously dropping from the sky. They seek sanctuary in a local church where they find another friend from the wedding party. Here they begin to put the pieces together and realize that this is the biblical apocalypse.
Take the plot from This is the End and suck all the funny out of it then you will have The Remaining. Now I'm not entirely opposed to religiously toned horror The Exorcist, The Omen and Prophecy are all fine examples of how this genre can work. Where The Remaining loses me is the main characters who keep claiming that they were so spiritual or so faithful and can't understand why they were left out of the rapture while just minutes before they were talking about what shitty people they were cheating on their significant others and such. Get over it dumbasses and just try to survive the hell on earth you were dealt. Still, I would not quite call this a religious propaganda film as it does possess some game in the horror aspect of it. The FX are decent, the danger seems real but the acting leaves much to be desired (I hated the bride). Bitty safe and available through Netflix DVD.

Sounds like an edgier version of "Left Behind", which I've tempted to watch because of Nicolas Cage. But, ultimately, haven't.
"This Is The End with all the fun sucked out of it" does not really sell it for me...
Hmmmmm, this sounds like one of those Kirk Cameron religious "message" films...
Ha! Might be Kirk Cameron's slightly darker doppelgänger.
