Here's the description according to TMC: "Professor's Assistant has snakes for hair." That really does sum it up. Village people (not The Village People) are turning to stone as there is a rogue Medusa on the loose.
Those six words were enough for me to spend 1 hr 23 minutes watching this to contribute to Horrorthon. I'd never seen a Hammer Films movie, but I'd read about the popularity as the leader of British horror for decades. I understand the appeal. It has all the style of a 1930s Universal horror film, but with some added gore and special effects. Intact are numerous shots of the moon, coming out of the clouds.
Worth a try if you're alone and have TMC.

You had me at, "there is a rogue Medusa on the loose." Love it.
Me too, what's better than a rogue Medusa.
That is a great line. Nice review, Trevor!
Excellent review--so true about the moon/clouds shots typical of 30s horror films.
I like how "rogue" Medusa suggests there are Medusas doing what they're told somewhere.
How nice to watch a Hammer film that comes through! You're right about the well-crafted atmosphere but a lot of them don't deliver on the story. You think they're gonna but then they fizzle.
I may be the biggest Hammer fan on the blog but as Octo said a lot of them don't deliver. This one sounds pretty solid.
Your 6 word description sure beats out TMC's! :)
