Agreed, Landshark. I only watched it once and don't think I really understood what the hell was going on.

i'd seen it once before as a young adult and found it confusing and disturbing.

this watching, i was not confused, disturbed but in a good way, and thought the whole thing was wonderful.

i am certainly open to other opinions, apparently the critical reviews were somewhat mixed. according to rotten tomatoes, variety called it "dull, unimaginative and pretentious."

I haven't seen it in a few years myself but I remember it as a masterpiece.

I liked it better on subsequent viewings; the ending kind of annoyed me the first time.
