Titus Andronicus

(1985) ***1/2

Titus returns from battle heroic,
But Queen of Goths wants revenge upon him;
Rapes his daughter, cuts off her hand – it’s sick,
Kills his sons, cuts off his hands, things are grim.

Shakespeare as horror? I’ve done it before,
This play is the earliest torture porn;
Daughter’s blood is spilled all over the floor,
On stage: from three bodies, three heads are torn.

This was an eighties BBC movie,
Production quality bad, acting good;
Taymor did a more visceral, queasy
Version of this play if you’re in the mood.

Not a haiku, a horrorthon sonnet,
Mix things up in front of the TV set.

Way to go Trevor! We needed a sonnet right about now. You and Landshark are impressing the hell out of me this year.

Bravo across the board, Trevor. Especially since you even with the more obscure BBC version instead of the Anthony Hopkins gore fest. And extra bonus points for the sonnet!

Thanks everyone! I'm feeling the horrorthon love this season - this is awesome.
