Masters of Horror: Joe Dante
A virus is sweeping across the nation effecting only men. When they get aroused their wires seem to get crossed and they think that God has commanded them to kill women. Two insect scientists who are working on a solution to keep a particularly deadly fly from breeding are solicited by the government to try and resolve the issue. The female population are being offed at record speed and the outcome seems very dim as we follow the wife of one of the scientists and her very stupid teenage daughter.
As with most episodes in this series it is a decent watch but nothing really spectacular. This one had the feel of one of those old “Tales from the Darkside” episodes for me. End of days plague kind of thing with a little madness thrown in for good measure. There were a few gory scenes that were pretty sweet and the ending was a bit unexpected but nothing shocking. I seriously wanted to tear into this a little more deeply but it left me with an "eh" feeling and I just can't seem to find any more words to describe it. Okay as a time filler but you won't be sorely disappointed if you miss it. My opinion, for what it's worth.

This is one of the Masters of Horror episodes that I still haven't seen. Overall I've found most of the episodes to be "eh" as you noted.
i like that we're calling them "insect scientists" -- i'm imagining a moth in a labcoat with a clipboard.
Totally! They have to watch out for the spider scientists.
I had a friend who would talk about the short story this was based on a lot; I never knew they made a MOH ep out of it.
