Extra injured on the set of Transformers 3
(CNN) -- An extra in "Transformers 3" was seriously injured in Indiana on Wednesday evening during the filming of a scene for the upcoming movie, authorities said
"Preliminary investigation revealed that shortly before 7 p.m, the movie crew was filming a stunt using numerous vehicles and drivers," the Indiana State Police said in a statement. "During this stunt, an object struck a 2006 Toyota, hitting the vehicle, and then went through the windshield hitting the driver."
The incident occurred in Hammond.
The vehicle hit a median barrier wall, traveling about a mile before coming to a stop, according to police. The driver suffered a serious head injury and was airlifted to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois.
Authorities are investigating the accident. The victim's name has not been released.
Hammond is in northwestern Indiana, about 20 miles south-southeast of downtown Chicago, Illinois.

I realize stunt people have a code of honor (well, I know about the "keep the camera rolling even if it looks like I might die" rule), but I hope this person makes it okay. Giving your life for a Transformers movie would be a sick joke.
I wonder what the "object" was? Hope it wasn't the director's megaphone that Bay threw during a tantrum. Or, in other words, I hope it was.
just about on the same level of tragic pointlessness as the stuntwoman who died during the filming of Gone Fishin'.
Good lord, this sounds bad: "A boat was supposed to go over a ramp, fly over a mangrove hedge, land between two other boats, and stop in the water. Instead the boat slid off the side of the ramp, flipped over, and landed in a crowd of crew and extras."
Yeesh. I notice with raised eyebrow that one of Gone Fishin's writers was J.J. Abrams.
