Thanks for all the great feedback on this! To toot my horn further I uploaded more pictures to the flickr set.
But go no further and you can groove on my funky landing methods. I was struggling with how to hold this beast upright without bulking up the flow of the design with clunky mechanical feet, and I hit upon this. Me likey.
So there's general voting for a week to winnow the 89 entries down to 32, then the head-to-head voting will start. You can see the details here, if you like. (There are four random divisions; I'm in the Corellia Regionals.) The vote count remains hidden until the results are in. I'll keep you all updated.
Woo!

That is such a sweet ride. So are you bracketed against The Eternity?
It's really a work of art. Ben is green with envy and is currently attempting to construct his own.
I just ate a tomato and I have a seed stuck in my tooth, so i have that going on.
No brackets yet, Stan, but I imagine the Eternity will make the cut and maybe you get paired with the guy next to you...
While JPX is working that see out, I'll answer his comment from the other post:
"Did you make it up as you went along or did your draw it out first? Could you build it again if you dropped it?"
I did make a profile drawing because there was a strict upper limit on size and some nutso impulse made me want to get as close as possible. But a lot of the specifics were figured out on the fly, and there are changes even from the very rough drawing. Originally the bottom fin was going to be the same as the top one, but this is better.
And yes, I'm almost certain I could. If someone painstakingly dissembled the entire thing and left me a big pile, then I can only say maybe.
what would be painstaking about just dropping it from something high?
genius move on the landing fin -- i'm surprised you didn't play that aspect up more in the description, but i noticed it is featured in one of the fbtb pics.
I'd bet money that not every piece would separate even if dropped from the Empire State Building. Between the front guns there is a painfully solid fist of Lego.
If someone would please take Octo up on that bet, we really could use the money. Only I think dropping that thing off the Empire State Building would kill someone.
That would be a helluva way to die.
Awesome Octopunk! You put the "ego" in LEGO. (Not sure what that means, just thought it sounded cool.)
Very cool design. And the pics are fantastic. That one of Jezzy Thark holding the chain looking up at the pod is fucking cinematic.
Hope u have a set handy, Jake wants one
