New Bond Theme Sounds a Lot Like a Coke Commercial

It's normal for me to wake up with yet another reason to die, but today, thanks to IWS reader SunKing, I was surprised to awaken to Another Way To Die--the new Jack White/Alicia Keys Bond theme, that is! It's the kind of grating song that assures you it's fine if you show up to the theater a few minutes late. Don't get me wrong; it's far better than Chris Cornell's Casino Royale theme, but since it isn't 1994, that isn't that huge of an accomplishment.

The music, whatever, but I watched the trailer and I totally love what they've done here.

Basically, they made Casino Royale into a complete reboot, which was cool, but that was only the beginning of their radical new approach. The new movie is something no James Bond movie has ever been: a direct sequel to the previous one.

I know that Blofeld and Jaws and other characters and threats have made repeated appearances, but this is different: they're picking up exactly where they left off (with him pointing the machine gun at that dude outside the chateau) and then moving forward. It's a really cool idea and very fresh for James Bond.

Call me nostalgic but as Bond themes go I'd prefer Shirley Bassey, Paul McCartney or Carly Simon's crooning any day of the week.

The one from Casino Royale was good. And it's the only one not to be named after the movie. (It was called "You Know My Name.")

...I mean, given that singers had to sing songs with titles like "Moonraker" and "Octopussy." (I was going to look up who sang those, but I lost interest.)
