Lost Boys: The Tribe

(2008) ***

Siblings Chris and Nicole have a jam packed first day in Luna Beach CA: move into a crappy apartment, go to a wicked cool surfer party so as to avoid watching The Goonies with their aunt, and become involved with the local vampire community (Nicole crushes on surfer/head vampire Shane, above). After Nicole unknowingly drinks Shane's blood she begins to transform, and Chris tries to find a way to save her, with the help of Edgar Frog, board shaper and vampire hunter.

This movie was a pleasant surprise, with plenty of gore, some humor, decent effects, suitable soundtrack, straightforward plot, and an updated CA surfer/vampire vibe. It didn't have quite (dare I say) the charm of the original but was certainly watchable enough and much better than I expected. Lost Boys 3, Horrorthon 2010?

I have this in my stack to watch, I'm glad it wasn't a complete disaster!

Pointing out movies that don't age well isn't my favorite thing, but the original really doesn't age well. Which makes #2 a little better, even.
