Werewolf

(1996) *

Some archeologists are digging at a site somewhere in Arizona and discover what appear to be the remains of a werewolf. A fistfight breaks out, the bones are somehow the source of an injury, and the unfortunate infected man eventually... well, you know. Two of the more unscrupulous archeologists decide to turn this to their advantage- a living werewolf could somehow provide a fundraising opportunity for them to continue their research.
Yup, another real stinker characterized by a lame plot, less than indifferent acting, laughable effects, and almost no blood or gore. Last year I watched a couple of good werewolf movies and the transformation and kills scenes are where these babies should really shine. Not so in Werewolf (1996). The transformation scenes are lengthy, boring, and implausible. You don't care about any of the characters, so what about some good kills at least? No, there's some flailing and maybe some wounding and one guy appeared to die of being scratched in the face a couple of times. Total waste o'time. Yawn.

Last year it seemed like I was watching all the stinkers. Sorry AC, I feel your pain but better you than me :)

The picture alone makes me want to yawn.

I'm always amused when someone thinks there's some financial payoff associated with a brush with the supernatural. So naive.

I saw a preview for another werewolf movie with Benicio Del Torro yesterday and I remarked how I've never seen a great werewolf movie. The old Lon Cheney ones are fun but hardly scary. I've seen ass trucks of 60's-70's crapola. Then there was the Jack Nicholson Wolf abomination. Will they ever get it right?

(Dog Soldiers doesn't count.)

American Werewolf in London

Wait, why doesn't Dog Soldiers count? Did you mean "Wolfman" instead of "Werewolf?" By which I mean a whiny, tortured cursed individual as opposed to fun-loving bloodthirsty shapeshifters?

I'd say American Werewolf in London works as a good wolfman orwerewolf movie. And The Howling is good, too, as the latter only.

The one thing that bugs me about the howling is how they made her all fuzzy and cute when she changed. Not nasty and scary like the other wolves. She looked like a Disney creation, the shaggy dog.
