Ack! 'Cathy' comic strip ending after 34 years

From usatoday, KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The comic strip Cathy, which has chronicled the life and dressing room meltdowns of its namesake for more than 30 years, is coming to an end.
Creator Cathy Guisewite said Wednesday the final strip will run in newspapers on Sunday, Oct. 3.

Guisewite says it took her about a year to reach the decision to end the strip she's been creating since 1976. She said the decision process was "excruciating" but that her "creative biological clock" is ticking and she has other things she wants to pursue.

Cathy is published by Kansas City-based Universal Press Syndicate, now known as Universal Uclick. The strip reached about 1,400 newspapers at its high point.

you can mark the birthdates of famous comedians as instances in which the world got funnier, but that takes years to come to fruition.

this is a rare case in which you can actually recognize the world getting funnier the day it happens.

that strip sucked.

See you in Hell Cathy! In your own special way you made me slightly less happy.

There was a funny flashback on 30 Rock in which Tina Fey's character says exactly what Cathy says in that panel. To my knowledge that's the only funny thing the Cathy strip has ever contributed to.

What happens in the last strip? I vote kill spree.
