Green Lantern sequel already in the works

From denofgeek, As shooting on the Green Lantern wrapped at the end of last week, causing DC Comics chief creative officer Geoff Johns to excitedly write "GREEN LANTERN IS WRAPPED!!!!" on his Twitter feed, news has arrived that Warner Bros has already hired a scriptwriter for its sequel.

According to Variety, Michael Goldenberg (who handled the screen adaptation of Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix) has been brought in to write the next Green Lantern, a move that shows a certain amount of faith in the first movie's prospects ahead of its release next year.

With Christopher Nolan rounding off his Batman movies with a third and final entry, and the lucrative Harry Potter franchise drawing to a close with the Deathly Hallows films, Warner Bros will be looking around for a new property that can pull in similar vanloads of cash.

Can Green Lantern, a much loved but less well-known comic book hero than his DC Comics stable mates Batman and Superman, make the kind of money Warner is clearly hoping for? We'll only know for sure when the film hits the big screen next June.
