NBC viewers were introduced to an innovative new television show called Star Trek on September 8, 1966—exactly 45 years ago today. The original groundbreaking series ran for only three years, but it left a lasting mark both on television and the science fiction genre.
After the cancellation of the original series, Star Trek continued with 11 feature-length movies, four additional live-action television shows, an animated series, and numerous adaptations to other media—ranging from video games to a major Las Vegas attraction. Well I care; Happy Birthday Star Trek! I still haven't seen every episode from the original series. This is partially intentional because I like to know that there are original Star Trek episodes that I haven't seen yet. I think I'll space them out throughout my life. Whirlygirl loves Shakespeare and has read all of his works except one - she informed me that she will read it at the end of her life. I like that.

That's wacky that Roddenberry wanted to visit parallel Earths instead of space. The writers are being generous when they describe that premise as "slightly" similar to that of Sliders. Sounds more like "extremely" similar to me.
I always liked Majel Barrett as Number One in the original pilot. And the female crewmembers wore pants!
