Fall horror preview: One more, 'Saw' fans, then you're cut off

From usatoday [excerpt], So long, Jigsaw. Don't let the door shear you on the way out.
After more than $730 million in worldwide box office and 30 million DVDs sold, Saw 3D, the seventh installment of the booby-trap horror juggernaut, will mark the final cut Oct. 29.

And for Tobin Bell, who has played the maniac for all seven installments, the last cut is the deepest.

"It's a little melancholy," says Bell, 68. "We've had such a great run, there's a sense of satisfaction in what you've accomplished. But no one likes to see a great run end."

Great, of course, is in the eye of the beholder. And from the beginning, Saw split critics over whether the film's gruesome violence, coined "torture porn," was art or sadism.

I hope they're serious about ending the franchise. Let's not forget Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, number freaking four in a series of TWELVE.

(I know I sound like a total horror noob saying that, but I'd really like the Saw series to end.)

Did you mean horror snob? What's a noob?

"Noob" is short for newbie.

Meaning that someone thinking themselves clever for coming up with a "hey, they sure do make lots of sequels nowadays" joke or, more specifically, "the 'Final Chapter' wasn't the final chapter -- guwahhh!" joke would be laughed off stage because that shit is, like, decades old.

In more populated discussion groups noobs are shouted down basically for coming in late to the party, bringing up topics that have been beat to death already by the group. I've only recently discovered this as I've joined various Lego groups on Flickr. So the one time I posted something I checked the discussion archives to make sure it hadn't been covered.

I agree with Octo although I haven't watched that past 3 installments. It would be nice if a horror franchise bowed out even slightly graciously for a change.

I'll be doing a Saw franchise roundup this Horrorthon, Jebus help me.

Mostly I'm looking forward to a complete spoiler post in which I outline every single Saw trap and its outcome (I've already done that for the first 3, you may recall).

I do recall, as I think I requested it. Because I never plan to watch any of those movies.

Guess I showed my noob status by not knowing what a noob was. NOOB!
