For new posters, here are our loose guidelines for rating movies:

Rating Scale
This was established by SummerIsle for Horrorthon 2004. I say this because I wouldn't give all of his examples the same rating.

***** -- A horror masterpiece. Absolutely essential viewing. (Wickerman, The Omen, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, The Ring, JU-ON, Dawn of the Dead)

****1/2 -- Brilliant (Halloween 2, Exorcist, the Shining, Hellraiser, Evil Dead, Suspiria, The Others, Inner Senses, The Eye, Kairo )

**** -- Excellent (Blair Witch 2, the Craft, Phantasm, Poltergeist, Evil Dead II, Race with the Devil)

***1/2 -- Great, fun, worth watching (Candyman, Elm St.1, Friday the 13th 4, Return of the Living Dead)

*** -- Good, watchable, no real surprises though (Friday the 13th part VI, Elm St.2-4, )

**1/2 -- No big deal if you miss it, barely adequate (I Know What you did Last Summer, Bride of Chucky)

** -- Pretty lame (Scream 3, Leprechaun, Pumpkinhead, Motel Hell, Gothika)

*1/2 -- Really bad (Martin, Last House on the Left)

* -- God-awful, virtually unwatchable - save for the absolute bottom (Shocker, Return to Horror High, Return of the Killer Tomatoes)

Poor Marc was hazed last year and graciously "volunteered" to watch all the Leprechaun flicks (poor bastard). Any new posters want to take on the Puppet Master series?

Hey Marc (God, am I really posting again?), can you please give Johnny a copy of that Halloween mix when you see him?

Thanks jpx! I'm really psyching myself up for this! Hubby has a new restaurant job so my nights will be pretty free after the kids are in bed...of course that means I'll be watching horror movies by myself...so we'll see how that goes!

Maybe Octo can give Marc our respective addresses so he can send out our mixes???

ha,ha! I just realized I'm a whole 6-9 time zones ahead of you guys, that will change so much!

Man but seriously, I'm a total scared wuss when it comes to scary movies, can I intentionally watch the crappiest horror movies? I like watching bad movies, it amuses me.

Wow, you haven't even started and you've uncovered one of the basic tenets of Horrorthon. Nice work.

I'm with you anp - I want to find those that are considered "Horror" movies so I won't get myself totally freaked out!

*giggle* 32 minutes ahead of you suckers...lol i don't know why that amuses me so much :D I guess it because i know i don't stand a chance (heehee)

thanks for the ratings guidelines, jpx. could you also re-post the hotly-debated-but-all-important definition of "horror" for us newbies? for instance, i can't imagine watching the MST3K version of a movie would count (though if it is i could be more of a real contender).

the mix is still a work in progress. there's still some inconsistency with the tracks i picked. i've been hoping that jsp would call me and we could brainstorm some replacements, but sucka never called me back.
