Robolar

The sight of The Big Fig reminded me of this PSA, which even as a kid struck me as being particularly cheap and poorly done. Children of the Northeast will likely recognize the bad poetry by clicking here.

That lead me to other fruits of Bostony goodness...

This commercial will sound in your head like a song you haven't heard in years but once heard every day. Try to ignore how annoying the horn soundtrack and little girl are and check out Dad's pants.

This one is the classic your remember and no intro can do it justice. It's fun to find out...

Both The Big Fig and Robolar are played by hammy, effeminate character actors who, out of costume, you probably wouldn't want near your children. What's that about? Maybe 70's TV was still holding onto remnants of the Catskills/Vaudville comedy vibe.

The name of the girl in both the Aquarium and Science Museum spots is Karen. Hmmm...

I'd like to point out that I've had the third video on my Facebook for months without a single comment, which led to my sad conclusion that not a single person ever looked at my page, which partially led to my decision to not to bother putting any further time into Faceboook. I have a Creature Double Feature one there as well, but, you know.

But yeah, that commercial is burned into my consciousness.

It's not fun to find out what your voice really sounds like, it sucks.

"It's not fun to find out what your voice really sounds like, it sucks." The truth of that has knocked me on my ass.

Jeez, dude, I'm sorry about your Facebook page. I admit that besides collecting friends I never have time for any of it. That's why I've never given you back a Star Wars figure. Facebook is all "oh, you clicked on the thing! Now you have to decide on a bunch of other things to click on!" and I just forget the whole affair.

Yeah, I get overwhelmed by Facebook. Whenever I look at it I get messages like, "You have 56 notifications" or something like that and then I just leave. I've maintained for a while that Facebook is too "busy" and I've never been happy with the layout.

I don't remember Robolar but the other 2 commercials I remember well. I always wanted to hit that "I can walk like a penguin" girl. Something about her just irritates the hell out of me.

facebook is a great timewaster, and i mean that in a good way. i ignore all the cute little junk people are sending, enjoy seeing what my friends are up to, get beaten at wordtwist by johnny sweatpants, and laugh at handsome stan's star wars quotations.

God that's unspeakably awful! I don't remember that one.

Can't see these as I am at work. Lame work. But I do remember Robalar just from that picture.

JPX - your comments on facebook crack me up!

"You have 56 notifications" or something like that and then I just leave." LMAO!

Wow, I totally remember that New England Aquarium commercial and I haven't seen it in 25 years +

PS. I like the horns.

Finally got to watch these. HA! I remember Octo pointing out that when Karen does the voice thing that if she didn't put her hand on the "hang up thing" it would have repeated the "It's fun to find out what your voice really sounds like" line.

I have to admit though that the swing of the Mom's Dorothy Hamil haircut in the Aquarium commercial always reminded me a bit of Octo's and my Mom.
