George Takei PSA on Census

He's one strange guy...interesting how Star Trek ended up turning a bunch of C-list television actors into lifelong ambassadors of humanism and progressive values.

I think it's great! It's just, you know, weird. What happened was that a decade went by during which there was nobody really holding the reins of the Star Trek phenomenon (since nothing like it had ever been seen before). All the fan fiction and the conventions and fanzines and letter campaigns (basically a pre-internet internet) started up in earnest and the damn actors ended up as the focus of the whole thing (not Roddenberry, who was wandering around in a burlap smock wearing a medallion, trying in vain to create a new show).

His uniform looks like it could use a trip to the dry cleaners, also.

Takei is a frequent guest on the Stern Show and he's been on all this week. They discussed this ad extensively on the show so I'm glad I finally had a chance to see it. He comes across as a very nice guy. I agree about the uniform, it's looking a bit rough.
