House of Dracula

(1945) **

Considered the last good Dracula film from the “classic” era, House of Dracula finds a wimpy, anorexic-looking, old fart of a Dracula (with pencil-thin mustache no less) arriving at Dr. Edelman’s office seeking a cure for his affliction. Later we learn that his motives are insincere and what he’s really after is the doctor’s beautiful assistant so he can turn her into a vampire as well. While the doctor is trying to help Dracula with his whole vampirism thing, Lawrence Talbot (The Wolf Man) arrives also seeking help. What is it with these wussy horror icons not being happy with whom they are? I mean Jason never sought the help of a shrink! When the doctor is unable to help Lawrence, Lawrence jumps off a cliff in an attempt to commit suicide. When the doctor looks for Lawrence, he uncovers a vast cave, where he stumbles across Frankenstein’s monster, buried in the sediment.

This sounds much better than it is. The Wolf Man turns into a werewolf exactly 1 time and it’s while he’s in prison so he doesn’t get to rip anyone’s throat out. Frankenstein literally does nothing! Like House of Frankenstein, these horror icons were all brought together with little to do. There’s no balls-to-the-wall fight like Freddy vs. Jason. Still, I found all of the Dracula films fun to watch.

I scroll down to this picture every day because it makes me laugh. He looks like he's mildly irritated about something, maybe someone forgot to unplug the toaster or something.
