Peeping Tom

(1960) ***

Mark is a deeply disturbed filmaker, soft spoken and shy. His father, a biologist specializing in fear in children (!) scarred him for life by filming his every move, including manipulated scenarios designed to scare the living shit out the boy. Mark rises above and manages to become talented with the camera but develops the bad habit of murdering his actresses to satiate his twisted desires. Only his girlfriend's blind mother suspects him but is it too late?

Peeping Tom caused quite a stir when initially released because voyeurism was a taboo subject at the time. It's obviously tame by today's standards but still manages to pack a wallop. Mark's Norman-Bates-like awkward creepiness will keep you on your toes and although it drags for a period, it ends very strong.
