Return to Sleepaway Camp

(2008)*

Camp Manabe, quite possibly the world’s shittiest camp, is run by a small handful of jerks who are in charge of providing a summer camp experience to a group of vile “teenagers” who spend their time tormenting one another, fighting, and basically ignoring all camp rules. As if managing these shit-heads isn’t enough of a stressor, the little fuckers begin dying gruesome deaths (hooray!). As bodies begin piling up so do the list of possible suspects. Who is the killer and why is the killer killing?

I admit I’ve only seen the original Sleepaway Camp, which is an awful movie with one good moment during the last 30 seconds of the film. Octo, God bless him, reviewed the series a few years ago. The latest sequel is a generic, tepid slasher film that is no wittier than an Anne Landers column and no more challenging than an Archie Comics maze (e.g., “Help Jughead get to the Chocklit Shop”). There are some cameos from the original film, but I don’t know why anyone would care. I gave this one star instead of zero because there are a bunch of deaths near the end, which made it marginally interesting. By the way, if you can’t guess the identity of the killer within the first 5 minutes of the film than you might need some cognitive testing.

Hate to reject the blessing, but I've never seen any of the Sleepaway Camp movies. You're probably thinking of the Slumber Party Massacre, Sorority House Massacre, and original Prom Night movies I screened in '04. There are only two of each, but there's heaps of pain.

(BTW, the one must-see in that batch is Sorority House Massacre Two (not One), and avoid the toxic Slumber Party Massacre II at all costs.)

God you're right, I forgot all about the Slumber Party Massacre and Sorority House Massacre series. They all sound the same!

So I guess that means it's up to you to take on the series after all JPX! You've already got one under your belt.

And some of those Jughead mazes can be quite difficult, I'll have you know.
