Horrorthon Challenge! (Sorry JPX)

Since my output has sucked this October, I am offering to do what I swore I never would again. I will watch and review The Exorcist, on one condition.
I am challenging all the Horrorthoners to revisit their own personal movie-demons. How about everyone watch and review either: the movie that traumatized you as a child; the most frightening movie you have EVER seen? Of course Whirly, this means you have to join me in revisiting The Exorcist...
Anybody in?

I'd love to but I'd really have to chew on what choice to make.

That would mean Cannibal Holocaust for me. Not sure if I can do it...

JSP, not sure you can find it, or not sure you can tolerate it?

Cat, dear god, I understand. You probably can't remember what movies you watched last week! You've watched more Horror movies this month, then I've watched movies, period, this year.

That would be Pet Semetary for me - not sure if I can get up the courage in the next three days. Maybe next year.

That would be The Ring for me, but I've watched that one a lot. Hmmm.

Not sure I can tolerate it.. Cannibal Holocaust is one of those movies that just makes you feel awful. Kind of like watching Faces of Death.

You know what movie turns my stomach, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. When that disgusting brother keeps scratching at his head with a coat hanger, heating up the skin with a lighter and eating it. Blech! Makes me want to puke.

miko, i'm planning to watch movies i've hitherto avoided, such as the exorcist and rosemary's baby; would that be sufficient good-fellowship?

i don't know about scariest, but texas chainsaw (the original) is probably the most disturbing movie i've made it through.

Catfreeek I watched Texas Chainsaw 2 and hated it. Then I watched it a few years later and thought it was genius. You should give it another shot!

I don't know about this guys... If Octopunk has to face the Zuni Warrior again he might be looking at a lifetime of therapy.

Come oooooooon everybody...

JSP, I was totally thinking of Octo and the Zuni when I posted this!

AC, I guess it depends. If you find them scary enough...but I find it strange the person who helps others mine their childhood for the root of their fears has no traumatic childhood movie...hmmm.

JSP, you can do it. (Did I mention my Daddy has cancer? Not that I want that to influence your decision. *sigh* I sure hope he survives to Christmas...)

Trevor, please see above. Daddy/Cancer/Christmas You could totally find PS at Blockbuster.

Cat, I KNOW you can do it. After the last 3 1/2 weeks, you can watch anything! Hell, you've almost watched everything.

JPX, dig deep. Again, with a head-shrink blocking out his childhood fears

miko, i didn't watch horror movies at all as a kid because i was too damn chicken. therefore i have no scary childhood movies to revisit. bambi and dumbo were traumatic enough for me. now that i think about it, my being part of this blog makes no sense whatsoever.

For me, it would probably be one of the 2 movies I've avoided because just the thought of them scares the shit out of me: Ju-On and Hellraiser.

Of the ones I've actually seen, it would have to be between The Ring and Blair Witch.

Miko, I cannot watch the Exorcist. That picture alone is going to give me nightmares.

There are two other movies that scared me as a child. The Birds, but even though I've never re-watched it, I'm quite certain I'm over it. The second is Poltergeist, which I'm still scared to death of. JPX tells me all the time that I won't find it scary, but I don't believe him. Just the thought of it makes me nauseous with fear.

I don’t own any of these movies, but if JPX does then I guess I’m in, except for the Exorcist. I refuse to ever lay eyes on it again.

Whirlygirl said...

...or Poltergeist.

miko564 said...

I understand The Exorcist completely. That is the way I feel too, I deleted the picture from my computer the minute I posted it.

BUT, I totally side with JPX on Poltergeist! I actually think you might find it a little silly now.

Whirlygirl said...

Miko, that is exactly what JPX said to me. I don't believe it. Did he put you up to this?

miko564 said...

Whirly, of all the people who could be put up to this...you really think I'm the one he'd choose? He can't even trust me to post reviews during October.

No, I was serious. Between the very aged special effects, and some of the dialogue...it looks like an after-school special now.

miko, you have presaged my next review, which I may in fact post tonight, or sometime in the next week or so.

Instead of boring everyone with another strained, stretch-y review of something i've worked on, I'm going with personal favorites of my own, one of which totally fucked me UP as a kid.

Like, fucked me UP. I can't stress that enough.

Review coming soon...great idea, miko!

Seriously Whirlygirl, Poltergeist is about as scary as an episode of Silver Spoons. Perhaps even less so.

You have to watch it now.

Miko, if nobody else is gonna say I guess it's up to me - fucking hilarious!

I actually didn't watch Cannibal Holocaust until my 20's so that doesn't really fly. And it's more disturbing than scary.

I'm trying to think of the earliest movie that scared the shit out of me and I gots nothin'. JPX force fed me Evil Dead, Re-Animator and Dawn of the Dead at such a tender age that I was pretty much desensitized.

The only thing that comes to mind is Bob from Twin Peaks crawling over the couch. My mom made me walk the dog right after that episode and I was looking over my shoulder the entire way. But I can't very well watch the entire series in the next 3 days... or can I?

Johnny Sweatpants said...

Miko - watch the Wicker Man for fuck's sake! Time is running out (for this 'thon at least). Dyin' to hear your take.

Whirlygirl said...

I probably shouldn't be such a baby about Poltergeist considering, even though it frightened me, I watched it about six times and all the sequels (which were very silly).

If I could handle repeated viewings then, I should be able to watch it now. If JPX has it then I'll watch it, but if I get nightmares it’s on your head, Miko, and you too, JSP.

miko564 said...

Whirly, I am so sure about this one, I'll make you a deal. If you get nightmares from this, I'll sit outside your house with the shotgun to assure your safety.

It ain't gonna happen, I think this is the perfect pre-teen/early teen Horror movie. Just scary enough for them...

Whirlygirl said...

Miko, I might just lie and say I had nightmares just to see you do that.

I would have to watch the exorcist and I simply won't do it! I lost 4 months of sleep as a kid and I can't bring myself back there unless you all get together and hold me down! :D
