(1995) ***
301/302 is a bizarre film about two very obsessive compulsive woman. One is infatuated with cooking, eating, and sex, the other is an anorexic that can’t even manage the sight or smell of food without vomiting. These two women live in an apartment complex one in 301 and the other in 302. At the beginning of the film we learn that the anorexic has gone missing by the detective questioning the gluttonous chef. The rest of the film is a series of flashbacks that depict the strange relationship between these women, their pasts, and what really happened to the missing anorexic.
I’m on the fence about how much I liked this movie. In one thought I think it was crap and then another quite intriguing. I wrestled with my rating. I probably would have given it a ** ¾ if JPX hadn’t banned me from giving ¼ and ¾ ratings. It definitely moved at a crawls pace at many times, and I think maybe about a half an hour of cooking could have been chopped. Some of the food was vile too. I thought the characters were very interesting case studies, and the film provided some good laughs. I wouldn’t run out for it, but it may be worth a viewing, especially if you’re entertained by the mentally ill.

Sounds intriguing although the pictures don't make it look too exciting.
I'm in total agreement with JPX regarding the 1/4*'s but I'm not sure why. Maybe we should put it to a vote?
I have a hard enough time coming up with my final ratings, I think 1/4 would just up my stress level!
Nice review, Whirly!
It's funny, although you didn't like the film it still sounds damn intriguing! I like the concept, but I guess there's some suckage in there that you're warning us about. How did you even hear of this strange film?
I didn't say I didn't like it, I did, I just have some mixed feelings about it. These women are crazy, and you know how fascinated I am by crazy, JPX.
The obsessive chef gets so insulted when the anorexic won't eat her food. There's a scene when the crazy chef discovers that the anorexic has thrown out all the food she cooked her. The chef removes the food from the garbage, puts it in plates, and then tries to force the anorexic to eat it. When she doesn't and instead begins vomiting the chef starts devouring the food.
And this was one of my random library picks. Sometimes I just randomly scroll through the horror they have and randomly request something.
"The chef removes the food from the garbage, puts it in plates, and then tries to force the anorexic to eat it."
That's how I would deal with it as well - I can't tolerate disordered eating!
I believe you would. She doesn't do it because she is annoyed by disordered eating. She has disordered eating herself. She just can't handle anyone refusing her food. It makes her spastic and then it makes her eat.
She couldn’t handle her husband refusing or not praising her meals so she started eating every meal like it was her last and gained a lot of weight. Then she cooked his dog and made him eat it.
This movie is sounding more and more great - bring it over when I see you!
I already brought it back to the library. I'll have to take it out again.
I think you'll find the characters interesting, but you'll probably also agree that there are some things that could have been done to make this film more effective.
"I already brought it back to the library."
Then you are of no use to me.
