Seven Days to Live

(2000) ***1/2

Ellen & Martin move to a quiet house in the country trying to mend their broken lives after the death of their son. Unbeknownst to them there was a grizzly murder committed in the house some twenty odd years before. The house has been empty ever since. On the first day in the house Ellen begins to see strange things, a man's head moves within an old picture and a 7 appears scrawled in the steamy mirror after her shower. She shakes it off and blames it on nerves. The following evening she is driving to the store and see "you have six days left to live" printed on a street sign. She backs up for a second look and of couse it's now a normal sign. This warning comes up every day in different forms, through a radio weatherman, an asylum patient, a number on her forehead, etc. Each day giving her one day less to look forward to. As this is going on her husband is being less than supportive, in fact he's being downright nasty to her. His agitation seems to increase more and more every day.

Finally Martin cracks and turns on Ellen after her persistant investigating reveals a terrible secret about their house. What follows is a ferocious fight for her life against her crazed husband.

I've found that Amanda Plummer seems to be sort of an aquired taste as actors go. You either lover her or she annoys the crap out of you. I think she's fantastic. I'm always amazed by the energy and strength she throws into the character she's playing. She wowed me in this film with the sheer ferocity she put into fighting for her life. There's no, weak woman falling down while running and then laying there crying till the psycho killer catches up kinda thing. The movie itself is sort of a, yeah this story's been done before plot. All in all it was well worth watching and I really have no complaints about it. The acting made it totally worthwhile.

This sounds terrific and I'm going to Netflix it immediately. Catfreeek, you're making some terrific discoveries and you're watching a hellofalot of movies and getting your reviews up at an amazing clip, rock on!

I tend to confuse Plummer with Lili Taylor (I had to look it up.) from Six Feet Under. I think Plummer just plays crazy a little better...

I concur with JPX, way to watch and write! Just try to remember to eat...

I dig Amanda Plummer, too. But uh, how old was their kid that died before the plot starts? Can I handle this one?

I think the kid was 7 or 8, something like that. They don't linger on it with a long drawn out death scene or anything. You just understand that's why they moved there.

I like Amanda Plummer, too.
