Masters of Horror episode directed by Lucky McGee (no relation to 50 Page McGee) (2005) ***
It must be difficult to find true love when you're an awkward, shy, insect-obsessed lesbian with the voice of a sad Muppet. But amazingly Ida managed to just that. Ida summons the courage to approach a mysterious (because she keeps her hair in front of her face) artist she passes by daily named Misty Falls and before long they engage in a torrid love affair. But things get less sexy when she receives a strange package from Brazil containing an unidentified but thoroughly icky enormous bug. The parasitic bug escapes, causes a slew of horrific problems and voila - there's your plot. The situation is exacerbated by Ida's old fashioned, homophobic landlady.
Sick Girl is another engaging enough installment of the Masters of Horror series. I admit I'm more lenient on these hour-long episodes than I am on actual movies simply because of their brevity. After all it's much easier on the brain to flush an hour down the toilet than it is a full length feature. Lucky McGee (deservedly famous for the indie movie May) did a great job with the gross bug bits and the drama held my short attention span handily. Ida's voice is indeed grating but if you close your eyes and clench your teeth, you'll get used to it after a few minutes.

That's true for any number of things.
I'm still trying to imagine what a sad female muppet sound like.
"insect-obsessed lesbian with the voice of a sad Muppet" My favorite lione of the week! I too give the Masters of Horror series a break because they are forced to accomplish a lot in a short period of time.
