Close Your Eyes

(2002) **

Hypnotist Michael Strother, who specializes in helping people quit smoking is talked in to helping Scotland Yard solve a case. One of his clients, Janet Losey is working on a child murderer case where one of the victims escaped and she is in police custody but she won’t speak.

Michael has been brought in to see if he can prompt any clues from the girl by putting her under hypnosis. What they unravel is the world of a psychopath who thinks he has found the secret of immortality.

This movie started out with some potential. I was drawn in by the mystery and wanted to figure it out. Somewhere down the line it lost me. It failed to retain its tension and I began wondering how much longer it was going to take to get to the good stuff. It never delivered. The scare tactic was rather banal. I think we were expected to cower in fear at the sight of weird symbols and pentagrams. The bad guy looked more like a closet weirdo and I think I would have been more frightened by him if he was lurking around an all girls school in a trench coat. I’m not surprised I had never heard of this, the original foreign title is “Doctor Sleep”, how lame is that. If it had been called that on Netflix I probably wouldn’t have rented it. The pictures just reiterate how feeble it was.

I don't know, I actually never watched ER.

Scratch that, I just looked him up on imdb and he is on ER.

At least the title is appropriate!

"Go do something else with your time" would also work.
