Spirit Trap

(2005) **½

Four students arrive at their new accommodations off campus in London. The new digs happen to be an old run down, long since unoccupied mansion. The flat-mates are as follows; Jenny, a sweet and kind clairvoyant girl who inherited such abilities from her late mother. Nick, a sensitive art student, troubled by the tragic death of his older brother when they were kids. Tom and Adele, a smart-ass drug dealing couple. They are hiding out from a former business partner they allegedly ripped off and are connected to the suspicious overdose of another friend. Finally, Tina their obscure fifth flat-mate who is quiet and mysterious.

Nick decides to fix the ancient Russian spirit clock in the foyer. He finds a diary jammed in the gears, which he pulls free setting the clock in motion. Unknowingly, by starting the spirit clock he traps them all in the house, hence the name “Spirit Trap”. The supernatural then takes over and begins messing with the occupants. First Tom’s drugs are missing from the locked cabinet where he hid them. He freaks out accusing Tina of taking them and forces everyone into a household search until they are found. During the search they begin to uncover the disturbing past of the house’s former residents. Eventually they realize that they’ve become imprisoned in a dimension known as a spirit trap. A place somewhere between life & death and the only way out is by way of a human sacrifice.

This movie kinda pissed me off early into it. When Nick finds the old diary jammed into the clock, after removing it he tosses it to the floor. No one seems to notice this and the one crucial bit of information they have is just callously ignored. If I found some old diary I’d be tearing right into it. Do none of these people have a curious bone amongst them?

Tom is a total dickhead giving drug dealers around the world a bad name. If his obnoxious personality isn’t enough to convince you they made him abusive to Adele and he keeps hitting on Tina in front of Adele as well. Hmmmm….maybe they want us to hate him a little, huh.

As a matter of fact Nick is too sensitive and Jenny is just too sappy sweet for my liking as well. The story isn’t entirely uncool but it’s predictable as are the scares. I did like the house though, I wouldn’t mind crashing there for a few nights.

This is going to sound a bit "JPX-ish," but that last picture makes me want to punch that girl in the face!
