It goes right up my ass that Revenge of the Sith wasn't even nominated for a freakin' technical award.

"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" had better makeup than Sith? Kong had better visual fx? Okay, I'll shut up now.
I'm just so disgusted that Crash won, though I haven't seen the other nominees. Crash is nothing more than a load of pretentious crap and I was stunned the stupid thing was even nominated. And Clooney winning for Syriana goes right up my ass as well. I swear that movie was funded by the Bush administration to blur the issues so that everyone throws their hands up and says "well I guess it's more complicated than I could ever hope to understand". Ugh. Choking on my own rage here... Possibly the worst movie I've ever seen.

It always burns my butt that historical costumes win over imaginary ones. Last year Aviator won over A Series of Unfortunate Events. I would say that making up an entire consistent look for a movie would be a greater challenge than consulting a bunch of old photographs. Aviator was especially annoying because you know all the Academy members were all wet to see Hollywood of several decades ago. Jerks.
I completely blew off watching the Oscars. Either you see it in a big group so you can make fun of everything, or go to bed.
Sith didn't deserve the tech award; War of the Worlds did. Sith was fantastic obviously but it's a refinement of the Clones techniques; there's nothing NEW in there but everything's done a little bit better. War of the Worlds was, by contrast, genuinely innovative. Spielberg had never done animatic previz and Muren and Kaminski had never done that kind of handheld matchmove work. The tentacle basement scene was shot using a technique I've never heard of anyone using (with the "walking lightrig").
Yeah those WOTW machines/space ships were truly fantastic. What's amazing to me is not only that he pulled off the visuals so well, but that he made that film really quickly.
