More on Saw III
Octopunk plans on watching all 3 Saw flicks for Horrorthon 2006. I wasn't that taken with the original and I haven't seen the second one yet, although I recently copied it in anticipation of the October Thon - it's only 7 months away people!
From Darkhorizons, "Fangoria spoke with Director Darren Lynn Bousman about his plans for the third "Saw" film and "Leigh [Whannell], James [Wan] and myself all started meeting weekly and talking about stories, and we've come up with one we really like. Originally, we took it to Mark [Burg] and Oren [Koules] of Twisted Pictures and started to look for other directors and, at one point, other writers. But the more we talked, the more we realized that this was a no-brainer. We had to end the SAW trilogy. Not the SAW franchise, but this trilogy between the three of us. We had to see this thing through".
At present, "Leigh is off writing the first draft right now and doing his own thing. As things progress and as we near shooting, I might do a polish. This one is for the fans. It's a complete fan-based movie; there are no studio execs telling us what they want to see here. This is for the SAW buffs in every aspect, and it's going to have a lot of stuff they won't expect to see. And believe me, they ain't seen anything yet. The opening deaths in this film are going to put SAW II to shame"
Bousman confirmed "we're even heading to the same stages and production offices we used in Toronto", and will get to work on his pictures for the WeinsteinCo once "Saw 3" wraps."

Okay, two things about this make me go "huh?" One is: "We had to end the SAW trilogy. Not the SAW franchise, but this trilogy between the three of us. We had to see this thing through."
Well, thank God they're not ending it at the third one, nudge nudge.
The other: "This is for the SAW buffs in every aspect..."
There are SAW buffs?
Sigh. I guess anyone making a movie gets used to talking about it as if it were new episodes of The Prisoner or something, but that self-inflation irks me. For the same reason I rarely watch talk-show guests discuss their new movies.
Shawnee Smith is back in Saw II! That's the girl from the Blob remake who nobody notices but me. She survived almost getting her head ripped off in Saw.
I kind of don't think it's fair that Jigsaw came back for seconds, there. Give the lady a break!
(Unless she IS the killer in this one. I haven't seen it.)
It's alway unfair when the "survivor" of a horror flick is tortured or killed off in a sequel. I'm still choking on my own rage over the fact that they killed off Laurie Strode after 9 outings. Choking I'm telling you.
One of my favorite reviews to revisit is the one I wrote for H: Res, so I can read Brent's first comment: "Yes! Take that, Halloween Resurrection!"
It seems even more unfair with Jigsaw, who puts together these lethal puzzles for you to win or lose.
"Congratulations! You're alive. And now in this next puzzle..."
Meanwhile you're saying "oh God, will you just shoot me or something?"
It's like the soul survivor from Firday the 13th being killed off in the opening scene of Part II (reportedly because she wanted more $ to star in a sequel, what an idiot).
