Final Destination

Final Destination (2000) *1/2

I came across this one just starting on cable the other night. I had never seen any of the entries in this long running series, but I remembered a funny thread from a JPX review of the last installment in which he complained about them adding "The" to the title of like the fourth or fifth sequel, but otherwise, just naming it the same damn thing again: "The Final Destination." So lazy and obnoxious.

So I wasn't expecting much from this, and it really lived down to my expectations quite well. First of all, it's got Stiffler in it, and the rest of the cast feels like it could have been cast fully from other 90s teen comedies. Everyone in the movie is attractive and glossy and blank (with possible exception of the lead guy, who isn't too bad). You've got fucking Ali Larter, cast at 24 to play a 17 year old loner goth chick! I have to think the casting director just threw that one out there to see if any of the higher ups making this pure corporate drivel were even paying attention. They weren't.

It's too bad, the premise really isn't horrible, but man does this movie suck. Zero interest in seeing any of the others.

This is sadly 100 times better than the sequels.

"THE Final Destination" does have a really cool twist at the end, which is a metaphor for the whole series. But, to get it, you have to watch all 4/5 movies. Probably not worth the payoff.

These films are all about the execution of each death. You could literally leave the room and go make dinner or do laundry during the blather in between each death scene.

You guys forget that I often start strong and then flame out in Horrorthon. We'll see if I can avoid the 2nd half slide this year...

I've seen this non-thon and I've always had plans to screen the whole set, but not this year. I should probably have that printed on a t-shirt.

I actually really like Seann William Scott. Is that bad?
