100 Bloody Acres

 (2012)***1/2

Two brothers run an organic fertilizer company. They use roadkill and scraps to make the fertilizer. Some of that roadkill turns out to be unfortunate people who have had accidents on the road. Three friends on the way to a music festival have car trouble and ask one of the brothers if you could possibly give them a ride. They wind up tied in a barn waiting to be turned into plant food.

Now I know this sounds like any old hillbilly film, but this Australian gem has got a lot of charm. When horror comedy is done right it deserves props and these Aussies have certainly done it right. The comedy aspect is light and not overblown, merely subtle suggestions really. The characters are intelligent not inbred idiots. The only annoying part of the film was one of the friends who is such an asshole I wondered why the other two brought him along. But after he drops a hit of blue sunshine acid he becomes much more palatable. There's quite a bit of Gore but nothing too stomach churning in my opinion, maybe the touch of comedy offsets the gore. All in all this film is good stuff.

Fertilizer? What a crappy way to die. I'd rather be used as hamburger meat a la Motel Hell thank you very much. Good find Cat!
