The Robot vs. The Aztec Mummy

(1959) *

A scientist and his wife invite some other scientists over and for the better part of an hour recap events that have happened some 5 years previously. The previous events involved an Aztec curse, hypnosis, kidnapping (the wife was kidnapped three times in the course of the movie), an evil scientist who became known as "the Bat," and, yes, a slow-moving, bedraggled Aztec Mummy. The last half hour of the film involves the present day action, in which the robot is unveiled by the Bat and the long-awaited yet brief and unconvincing battle is joined.

This fabulously boring movie was made in Mexico and dubbed poorly into English. I didn't know until afterward that the "5 years ago"recap framing device was necessary so that the plot and footage of two prior movies could be utilized. To add insult to injury, I had gone to the video store to rent Trick R Trick (needing, and deserving, some quality horror) and the store's one copy was out. So Mr. AC and I had to rely on streaming netflix options last night, and this is what Mr. AC chose. I can recommend "the Robot vs the Aztec Mummy" as a sure-fire way to induce sound, restful sleep, but cannot recommend it for any other purpose.

Ugh! To go from the potential of Tick R Treat to this? I'm feeling pretty bad for you and Mr. AC.

Yeah, that bites. Props for tackling such an obvious turkey, though. I long for the day when we all have clunky, kneeless robots to do our bidding.

Seriously, no knees? You're never going to take over the world if your opponents can just run upstairs.

AC, how could you?
Were you in an Aztec trance?
One star is too much!
