May

(2002) ****

May is a strange girl, she's been different all her life. Her best friend is a doll her mother gave her as birthday present. The doll is encased in glass so she can never really play with it. She really just wants to love someone and have them love her back. Is that too much to ask? She becomes obsessed with Adam and wants desperately to become his girlfriend.

The problem is, that May is just too weird for him to take and after a brief start to their romance things come to an abrupt halt. As she tries repeatedly to connect with Adam and fails, she begins reaching out to other people in desperation.

It becomes more and more apparent that May is becoming increasingly impatient with the people around her. She is beginning to change and come out of her shyness.

But for May these changes aren't a good thing. Her mind is cracking and the results could end up being quite destructive.

Loved this film. It's unique and uses beautiful symbolism throughout. May is charming and you truly feel for her as she knows that she is weird but somehow can't help being that way. Even though you have a pretty good idea where the film is leading, it's wonderful to watch the progression it takes to get there.
