The Living and The Dead
(2006) ***
Can you think of a worse hell than being bedridden sick and having your severely mentally challenged son decide to send the nurse away and take care of you himself. I have never felt sorrier for a character in my life. Sure I've endured endless torture films and people being skinned alive but this here is far too real for my liking. The Mother is scared shitless and completely helpless. She cries as her son shoves way too much medication down her throat professing that more will make her better faster. She helplessly shits herself when he's off doing mentally challenged things instead of taking her to the bathroom. He leaves her in the bathtub too long until she's cold and shivering. Need I go on? I could you know, there is far more mental anguish to be had. This is a frustrating film, I was so uncomfortable watching this poor woman. For what it's worth, yes it was effective. Maybe too effective.

Gah! I don't like the sound of this at all! (Secretly still a biddy.)
yuck! (openly, always, a biddy.)
That sounds...dark.
"when he's off doing mentally challenged things" Hysterical, what could those things be? Yeah, this sounds like 90 minutes of Meet the Parents, all uncomfortable and joyless.
How did he convince the doctors that he was mentally capable of taking care of her?
He didn't, he just hid when the nurse came to call and waited til she went away. He locked the house and wouldn't let anyone in.
