Automaton Transfusion

(2006) **

Automaton Transfusion was a much-hyped low budget indie zombie movie centering around high school jerks which Fangoria labeled a Top 10 horror movie of the year. I’m here to tell you that it most certainly does not deliver. While the gore is both gross and convincing, my blood-thirsty October appetite now requires slightly more. It’s the little things that annoy me. There’s a fine line between an inspired homage to the Romero zombie movie (such as Flight of the Living Dead) and a limp wristed imitation with no new ideas. I’m having trouble organizing my problems with this movie so I’m just going to throw them all out there.

When did “You’ve got to shoot’em in the head!” become a required line of dialog in every single zombie flick? Enough already. That’s only the tip of the clichĂ© iceberg. There's the overused obnoxious-guy-becomes-annoying-zombie development. *Yawn* The dialog sputters along like nails on a chalkboard. “What the fuck was that?,” asks one of the losers after being chased by a hundred or so frothing corpses. “Ok, just calm down!” “Calm down?” How am I supposed to be calm when blah blah blah blah yakkety-fucking-yak?” I’m paraphrasing but only slightly.

And finally, the shaky cam alone was more than enough to sink the movie. I tried to read the lettering on the main character’s t-shirt for almost 45 minutes of the movie but gave up in frustration.

Skip it. Better yet, spit on it.

We'll toss that one in the fire along with about 10 of the ones I watched so far. At least we'll be nice and warm.

It's amazing to me how many zombie movies do manage to add something new to the mix, so yeah, this sounds like a disappointing effort. Joiks.
