The Crazies

(2010) ***1/2

Or the CraZAZIES, if you prefer.

The esteemed 50P has already given you the plot outline here, and yeah, I'm Whirly/JSP piggybacking on that so I don't have to go into it.

I really enjoyed this flick. JSP mentioned in the comments of 50's review that part of the good is watching the main group deal with both the Crazies and the military. That was the exact thought I had in one of the more involved scenes with the military. "Jesus, I'm not sure who the hell is worse?!"

There are some really good tense moments - but not so much on the gore. I was actually expecting more on that front. The Crazies are clearly crazy, and the beginning of the infection is powerful - case in point:

But once things get moving and the military comes in, it's more about the main group getting out of town then dealing with Crazy run-ins. But I liked the group and it was that good bite-your-nails-because-you-know-something-bad-is-about-to-happen kind of flick.

I don't know honey, does he look crazy to you?

In other words - fun. And I admit that's how I prefer my horror. (I know, I'm lame.)

(And then I got so excited to finally post, I forgot pictures! D'OH!)

good -- i used up all the ones i captured that i actually liked and only stuck a not so great one on there because you hadn't put any pics up.

if i'd captured that eye peeking through the keyhole, that'd have been yours for sure.

...

what am i saying? *i'd* have used it.

I was going to start off this year's Horrorthon watching this but it became apparent that this was going to be the Trick R' Treat of this year. I still plan on getting to it but I'm disappointed to hear that it's low on gore. I was certain that this film was going to be a gross-out. Nice review, DCD, and welcome to the show!

i prefer my horror "fun" too, dcd, though i'll force myself to watch some bona fide scary stuff this month. without knowing the buzz, jon put the crazies in our queue; if the month is long enough, we'll add to the chorus of reviews.

Welcome to the party, babe! Nice review. With my limited time this year, I've been leaning towards fun flicks myself.

I'm all for piggybacking and I plan to do the same when I watch it, though, I'll probably not be nice enough to put in a link.

I can't wait to read more of your reviews.
