I would like to point out that two movies featured heavily in this year's contest both contain this oddly specific feature:
Satanists whose secret sedatives taste so crappy the victims don't eat it all, then wake up when they're not supposed to.
Excellent observation. Sounds like there may be an untapped market for tasteless sedatives with longer half-lives.
That last one is my favorite.
