Stake Land

(2010) ***1/2

In a desolate post-apocalyptic world where a vampire epidemic runs rampant, Martin, just your average teenage boy, is left orphaned. A gun toting, stake wielding stranger known only as Mister, saves his ass and the two of them take to the road headed for Canada, the new Eden. On the road, they not only have to contend with nasty vampire attacks, but a rogue militant sect known at The Brethren, who use tactics like dropping hordes of vampires from helicopters to infect those who will not join their cause.

This film kicked some ass, not as campy as Zombieland, not quite as somber as The Road. The vampires are nasty filthy things, almost like packs of fast, agile zombies. No twinkling vampires here, just bad ass vampires that Mister refers to as berzerkers. There is tons of blood and gore to satisfy those of you who relish in it. I had never heard of this film, just stumbled on it while surfing Netflix, turned out to be a good find.

Yeah, action and adventury, and with dirty, yucky vampires! I'm in.
