Blade

(1998) *1/2
Apologies for the delayed continuance of my participation in writing up my reviews. My peace offering consists of the fact that I followed Octo's suggestion that someone take one for the team and watch the Blade movies this October. Blade is much more of an action flick than a horror flick. I remember wanting to see Blade when it came out (I'll admit to a Wesley Snipes crush--which somehow still holds nostagilcally when I rewatch Demolition man).

Bloody vampire during the in the bloodrave

In the movie, Blade is born as his mother is dying in a hospital after a vampire attack vampire and retains features of both beings (thirst of a vampire, sun, silver, and garlic friendliness of a human). Befriended by Whistler (Kris Kristofferson) Blade becomes a hybrid day-walking vampire hunter both to avenge his mother's death and to protect all non vampire familiar humans. Whistler creates a treatment to keep Blade's bloodlust at bay as well as lovely custom weapons that were a visual highlight in the movie (the blood bath rave was also visually stimulating). All told, I was disappointed that the CGI and special effects didn't really hold up. The now "old school" fight scene and action sequence coreography was nice to see again, despite how the movie dragged in the middle.

CGI has come a long way since 1998

I remember really liking this film when it first came out, and I even watched the sequels, which I also enjoyed for the most part. Years later I would revisit Blade and I was sooooooooooo disappointed in the FX.

Does this mean we have more Blade reviews coming from you?

Welcome back Trevor! I had a feeling this one wouldn't hold up although I too enjoyed it at the time.

Just posted another Blade review and one more is heading your way! Actually I have a few other reviews to do also. I have no idea how Oct and Nov flew by with out my active and timely participation on the 'thon, but I can see why people keep mistaking me for Trevor, instead of Tami. Maybe Trevor and I should rename ourselves. I really wish I had seen the Blade movies when they were released--I think I would have enjoyed them a lot when they were fresh and new. It is pretty cool to see just how far FX have come.

Oh crap, I'm so embarrassed that I mistook you for Trevor!

No worries JSP. I'd only be offended if you weren't able to know the difference between us after meeting us in person, (hint, he's a male). ;0)

Jeez, I thought you were Trevor too and I was wondering about his crush on Wesley Snipes, lol.

I haven't watched the Blade films since they came out, I think I'll keep it that way.

Tami - I think the confusion would be resolved if you deleted "(Trevor's friend)" from your name and if Trevor removed "(Tami's friend)" from his. On the other hand those names always make me chuckle. I suppose I could just pay slightly closer attention.

LOL Catfreeek, I was also curious about Trevor's mistaken crush on Wesley Snipes. I wondered if he was gay, bisexual or if it was just a man crush like the one I have for Mark Morford.

I was thinking man crush at the time, lol.

I also thought this was Trevor right up until I read "people keep mistaking me for Trevor." And I think there was another time I thought Trevor was revealing a man crush and it was actually Tami.

I only saw this once and found it mostly disappointing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when Blade takes out the circle of leader vamps towards the end, isn't he making them disintegrate even though he's only using his hands, no silver? That bugged me.
